This lessons learned looks into how and why local, female social mobilizers in Afghanistan are able to reach families and provide parents with critical information about polio to reach more children with the vaccine. A 2014 Harvard-sponsored study of family attitudes in the highest-risk polio areas confirmed that families trust health information provided by local, authoritative women far more than any other source.
